Those men and women who gave their last full measure of courage in a foreign land, so that those of us at home could sleep safely in our beds. Those whose names are on a dark wall in Washington DC; those who are interred in Arlington or some other National Cemetery; those who are buried in France, or Holland. And yes, those who will rest forever at our own Hilltop Cemetery. Let us spend a part of today in remembrance and contemplation for those who fulfilled that line in our National Anthem: “The home of the free and the land of the brave” In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark your grave, and point the way To where the dead have gone astray.
