Congressman Jeff Hurd Actions and Statements

Jeff Hurd has already been active in his new role as our Representative for US Congressional District 3 Colorado. Rep Hurd’s voting record can be monitored on BillTrack50 at: https://www.billtrack50.com/legislatordetail/29640.

Of particular note, Rep. Hurd made a statement with which some may take issue shortly after Donald Trump’s pardons of nearly 1500 January 6 prisoners. A transcript of that statement follows:

  • “I am deeply disappointed in the pardons issued by President Trump for those involved in the January 6 events, especially for those who assaulted law enforcement officers and for those who fought to stop the constitutional certification of the 2020 election. The peaceful transfer of power is a cornerstone of our democracy. Those who assault law enforcement officers and attempt to undermine our democratic processes should face the full consequences of their actions. Accountability is essential to maintaining public trust in our government institutions. Pardoning individuals who engaged in such severe actions risks eroding this trust. I stand in support of law enforcement and the rule of law. We must move forward as a nation united in our respect for democracy and the peaceful transfer of power.”

As to his voting record so far, I see no significant issues. In particular I applaud his sponsorship and support of the “Fix Our Forests Act,” HR471. This bill has bipartisan support and is aimed at making the US forested lands healthier and less vulnerable to catastrophic wildfires.
