| Fellow Patriots,
I want to personally thank everyone who helped in our “Get out the Vote” efforts. Our county had a strong showing in voter turnout, much better that the statewide turn out. The statewide turnout was around 68% while Archuleta’s turnout was over 80% of active voters! Give yourselves a hearty pat on the back and we’ll celebrate at our next meeting and at the Holiday potluck as well.
While not all of the candidates we supported won their races, the majority did. Clark Craig lost by about 1,500 votes, mostly due to voters in La Plata County. Among those in the winner’s column were Jeff Hurd, Cleave Simpson, and Warren Brown. John Ranson and Brad Hunt also won, unopposed.
The ballot measures and amendments were a mixed bag but importantly, prop 131, Ranked Choice Voting, went down in flames, but 79, enshrining abortion in the Colorado constitution passed. Surprisingly, to me, our county voted to approve 79 with 51.5% for and 48.5% against. Archuleta County voters rejected 131 with 56.3% no, and 43.7% for. Our previous U.S. House representative, Lauren Boebert, won her election in CD 4 as well.
