Many of you have likely heard that BIOS passwords for election equipment across Colorado were exposed on the CO Secretary of State website and were accessible there for a significant period of time. This breach was first reported by the Colorado GOP, and that is how most of the County Clerks across the state learned about it. Instead of repeating reporting that we’ve received, I will simply post captioned links to the reporting below. You can draw your own conclusions.
Before we start, I want you to know that I have spoken with our County Clerk and Recorder, Kristy Archuleta, about this incident, and she indicated she is willing to take calls if you have questions and/or concerns. She can be reached during office hours at (970) 264-8350.
Action Alert: It may be possible to have an impact on how this situation unfolds. The Colorado GOP suggests that concerned citizens who have become aware of this incident submit an affidavit to their local district attorney, demanding a thorough independent investigation into the actions of the Colorado Secretary of State and her office. Further information on this, including a sample affidavit, may be found at:
The Colorado GOP is updating the sample affidavit as new information becomes available, and I’m attempting to keep up with these changes by maintaining a version customized for Archuleta County. Please contact me (contact info below) if you wish to get the latest Archuleta-specific version.
Articles and Statements: Here is a list of articles and statements about the breach, roughly in chronological order. We will add to this list as we learn more, so keep checking here if interested.
