Summary of the Pueblo Assemblies (CD3 and State)

The 2026 Republican Assemblies in Pueblo – A Summary
On April 10 and 11, delegates elected at the Archuleta County Republican Assembly attended the Republican Assemblies for Congressional District 3 (CD3) and the State of Colorado, held in Pueblo. The following is a summary of the events and results.

At the CD3 Assembly on April 10, we experienced cramped spaces and significant delays entering the meeting due to several factors. Two positions were considered: the State Board of Education CD3 Member, and the US Congressional District 3 Representative. Only one candidate in each was nominated at the Assembly, so both were selected by acclamation. The results are as follows:

  • State Board of Education: Sheri Wright
  • US Congressional District 3: Ron Hanks

Note that Colorado has two basic paths to the primary ballot. For the Congressional position, Incumbent Jeff Hurd successfully followed the petition path and will be on the ballot.

At the State Assembly on April 11, all of us waited in line in the cold for hours due to glitches in the credentialing process. Numerous attendees were forced into multiple lines, and many grew weary of the ordeal, eventually leaving in frustration. In all, it was far from a satisfactory start to the whole thing.

Some may have heard or seen that the events were fraught with problems, but in the end, the business got done. Yes, the credentialing was a train wreck, a victim of technical issues, along with poor planning, preparation, and execution. Once the Assembly Chair – a certified parliamentarian – took the gavel, things went reasonably smoothly. Disputes stemming from the credentialing arose, but the Chair handled them well.

The results of the candidate votes are as follows, in order of position attained on the primary ballot:

  • Colorado Governor: Scott Bottoms, Victor Marx
  • Colorado Attorney General: Michael Allen, David Willson
  • Colorado Secretary of State: James Wiley
  • Colorado Treasurer: Kevin Grantham
  • US Senator: Mark Baisley

Also considered at the State Assembly were a number of resolutions, all of which passed. These may be found here: https://colorado.gop/resolutions/.

Feel free to talk with those delegates who attended to get their perspectives on this experience. Much more happened than what is described here.
